Department of Science and Technology of Anhui Province recently announced the review results of newly recognized new R & D institutions in Anhui Province in 2021. The Institute of Energy of Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center (Anhui Energy Laboratory) (Hereinafter referred to as Institute of Energy) is one of the 38 selected institutions.

Institute of Energy founded at the end of 2019 is a new R & D institution jointly built by the Anhui Provincial Government and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Based on the advantageous discipline resources of Hefei Institute of Material Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei University of Technology and Anhui University of Science & Technology, Institute of Energy has established six research centers, which are Hydrogen Energy and Ammonia Application Research Center, Renewable Energy Research Center, Smart Power Research Center, Coal Clean and Efficient Utilization Research Center, Neutron Technology Application Research Center and Superconducting Technology Research Center and has carried out 26 major scientific projects. More than 160 papers have been published, 51 patents have been applied, 6 patents have been authorized and 6 software copyrights have been registered.  Institute of Energy won the second prize of Anhui Science and Technology Progress Award in 2020.

Institute of Energy adheres to the integrated development of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation. It creates an innovation chain of basic research - applied basic research - achievement transformation to strengthen research forces of scientific and technological innovation and speed up the system of achievement transformation and application according to the development ideas of engineering, industrialization, capitalization and internationalization. Institute of Energy cooperates with enterprises to build collaborative innovation centers and joint laboratories to break through the last obstacle to the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Eight enterprise collaborative innovation consortia have been established and more than ten enterprises have been incubated locally.

Institute of Energy will take the initiative to undertake the mission, strengthen the major scientific and technological research and promotion and application in the energy field, and accelerate to make breakthroughs of a number of major scientific issues and key core technologies to promote the development of the whole chain industry of platform construction, scientific research and industrial incubation with the strategic tasks of carbon peak and carbon neutralization as the core. Institute of Energy is committed to turning more innovative achievements into real productive forces on the spot and accelerating the construction of a source of scientific and technological innovation with important influence.
