Recently, the Department of Science and Technology of Anhui Province announced the results of the review of newly identified new-type research and development institutions in Anhui Province in 2021, and 38 institutions were selected. The Institute of Energy of Hefei Comprehensive National Science Center (Anhui Energy Laboratory) (hereinafter referred to as the Institute of Energy) made the list.

Established at the end of 2019, the Institute of Energy is a new-type research and development institution jointly built by the People’s Government of Anhui Province and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Relying on such advantageous subject resources as Hefei Institute of Physical Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei University of Technology and Anhui University of Science and Technology, the Institute of Energy has successively established six research centers on hydrogen and ammonia applications, renewable energy, smart power, clean and efficient utilization of coal, neutron technology applications and superconducting technology, and has arranged and implemented 26 major scientific research projects. It has published more than 160 relevant project papers, applied for 51 patents, granted 6 patents and registered 6 software copyrights, and won the second prize of the 2020 Scientific and Technological Advancement Award of Anhui Province.

The Institute of Energy adheres to the integrated development of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation, and builds the innovation chain of "basic research-applied basic research-achievement transformation" according to the four-in-one development idea of "engineering, industrialization, capitalization and internationalization", so as to speed up the construction of the key strength of scientific and technological innovation and the application system of achievement transformation. By building collaborative innovation centers and joint laboratories with enterprises, it has opened up the "last mile" of the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. At present, 8 collaborative innovation consortia of enterprises have been set up, and more than ten enterprises have been hatched locally.

Next, the Institute of Energy will closely focus on the national "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" strategic task, take the initiative to undertake the mission, strengthen the major scientific and technological research and popularization and application in the energy field, accelerate the breakthrough of a number of major scientific issues and key core technologies, promote the development of the whole chain industry such as platform construction, scientific research and industrial incubation, turn more innovative achievements into real productivity locally, thus speeding up the creation of an influential source of scientific and technological innovation.
